"If I could just get this dumb sail to work!" I yelled out over the water.

Hi! It's Albie. Check this out: I'm sailing past a small island in the harbor, wind in my hair,

feeling free and alive. Everything's perfect... until I try to turn left toward the harbor exit.

The boat won't respond.

I'm pulling the tiller with everything I've got, but we're not turning. Instead, we're heading

straight toward the sea wall. Straight toward the rocks.

My heart starts racing. This is the moment where panic wants to take over.

I try my first trick - pull the jib sail super tight to create a wall against the wind. It works... for

about three seconds. Then the wind just funnels around it like it's not even there.

We're still heading for the rocks.

Unlike a car, I can't just hit the brakes. I'm thinking about dropping all the sails (a ton of

work and my absolute last resort), but I decide to try one more thing.

I open the main sail fully, pull the jib with everything I have, and yank that tiller one more time.

Suddenly - it works! The main sail catches the wind, blocks the jib completely, and we

swing to port. I take the biggest breath of relief and can't help but smile.

Danger over. Crisis averted.

You know what I love about moments like these? They remind me why I'm out here.

The freedom. The challenge. The ability to just breathe and think without anyone looking over
