the stars glittered in the dark...

“Go ahead!” I laughed. “Give it your best shot!”

It was a dark night out at sea. The sails were pulling the boat along at a good clip
and we were crashing through some four-foot waves.
There was plenty of wind in the sails and its power pulled the boat over slightly on its
side (making me grab the lifeline to hold on).
The white stars glittered in the dark and seemed to "move across the sky" as
the boat moved. You could see them gleaming and peeking out where they
weren't blocked by the huge canvas sails.
Occasionally I heard a noise beside the boat and wondered if it was a dolphin!
My face was beginning to get a little cold from the constant wind, so I jumped down the
hatch, over the steps, and into the cabin below. There I grabbed my hoodie and carefully
held on to anything I could (to balance me as I walked back up the stairs to the top deck).
Then I took my cap off and put the hoodie on over my windbreaker. “Ah, that felt better!”
I said, feeling much warmer.
I then put my cap back on and drew the hoodie up over my cap, so that the wind now had
a harder time getting at my face.
As I did this, I happened to look over the deck at a big wave, that came rolling up behind the
boat. It was mildly threatening to dunk its white cresting top over the rail and all over my feet.
“Go ahead!” I laughed. “Give it your best shot!” The wave did give it a try but the stern of
the boat lifted up, right on the back of the white water itself, and protected me from any
dunking!
It was still fun to see that big wave gain strength and show its mighty power to me before
it retired and rolled under the hull with a swo-o-sh of white water.
